BIOGRAPHY

Jill D. Paquin, Ph.D., LP, is Professor of counseling psychology at Chatham University and is currently the outgoing Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Group Psychotherapy. Dr. Paquin is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17 - Society of Counseling Psychology and Division 49 - Society for Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy) and a member of Division 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women). 

Dr. Paquin completed her doctoral degree in counseling psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Before working in mental health, Dr. Paquin worked for several years in public policy, public health and advocacy in Washington, D.C.. Courses Taught:

ACADEMIC AREAS OF INTEREST

Dr. Paquin is a group dynamics scholar and researcher. She studies how members and leaders mutually influence one another during small group interaction. Her research has focused on examining the active ingredients of change in group therapy interventions, with a special focus on group practice with traditionally marginalized and underserved populations. Dr. Paquin also researches the career experiences of diverse women in STEM, including facilitative factors and barriers to advancement and career success for women working in traditionally White male dominated STEM fields. Lastly, Dr. Paquin studies the identity and career experiences of psychotherapists. Specifically, this research focuses on exploring identity development and professional issues encountered by psychotherapists, during training and throughout one's career.

Dr. Paquin’s orientation to clinical work is integrative and informed by interpersonal-relational frameworks, third-wave behavioral approaches, multiculturalism and feminist therapy. She specializes in group therapy practice, and has a special interest in working with clients on the trauma and PTSD spectrum, women, and traditionally underserved and/or populations marginalized by systems of oppression.
