Management Overview

Chatham’s management major is designed to provide students with specific skills in business strategy, entrepreneurship, quantitative analysis, and information systems. As part of Chatham’s liberal arts approach to a business education, you will benefit from our unique commitment to addressing issues such as sustainability, diversity, and responsible business in a global context. You will leave Chatham fully-prepared for employment in the real world, thanks to professional development in in-demand business areas such as project management, Six Sigma, and coding, as well as the individualized attention of and experience conveyed by our faculty.

Partnerships in Pittsburgh

The B&DS Department partners with the Project Management Institute Pittsburgh Chapter for many networking events. Chatham hosts the annual Intercollegiate Project Management competition and satellite PMI Pittsburgh’s monthly meetings at Chatham’s Eden Hall Campus.

Explore the Management Degree:

  • Award-winning faculty with years of experience teaching management at the college level.
  • Enhance your classroom knowledge with business seminars on career strategies and issues affecting international markets, personal sessions with mentors, and networking events with successful business professionals both on- and off-campus.
  • Set yourself apart with a minor in one of Chatham’s other undergraduate business programs (marketing, accounting, management information systems, international business, economics, or applied data science analytics), or in another field such as psychology or communications.
  • Qualified students may be eligible for Chatham’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other Integrated Degree Programs, which allow you to save money and speed time to acquiring both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
  • All students complete a capstone seminar that channels the knowledge they’ve accumulated into a discipline-specific project under close faculty guidance.
  • Qualified students may be eligible for the 3-1-1 program at the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University, where they may complete both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years.

Human Resources Management
This course uses readings and case studies to assess and evaluate alternative approaches in staffing, training, organizational development, performance appraisal, compensation, benefits, labor relations, and collective bargaining. The emphasis of the course is to help students understand these elements of human resources management within an integrated systems approach.

Leadership and Management
This course builds students’ ability to identify challenges facing managers in 21st century organizations. The course covers theories and applications of leadership in the changing environment of today’s world. Students learn organizational skills, presentation skills, and critical thinking skills. Writing skills are emphasized.

Managerial Economics
This course covers the application of intermediate microeconomic analysis to business decision making. It is designed to bridge economic theory and economic practice. Topics include consumer theory, production analysis, pricing strategy, and risk analysis.

Students have interned in a variety of settings, including organizations such as Pittsburgh Pirates, Bank of New York Mellon, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dick’s Sporting Goods, PNC Bank, Pittsburgh Penguins, U.S. Department of Commerce, UPMC, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

School Mission

The School of Business & Enterprise teaches students the fundamentals of business practice through learning and applying academic content, practicing business skills, and evaluating the context of business decision-making. The School integrates material and programming incorporating the University’s mission in global understanding and environmental responsibility and prepares students to work as leaders in professional and civic arenas. Through student-centered curricular and co-curricular offerings, the School assists students to reach their full potential in the business world.

On-Campus Opportunities for Growth 

On-campus groups such as E-Club (Entrepreneurship Club) and Toastmasters help students and community members to gain and strengthen management and communication skills for their ongoing careers.
