New and Transfer Student Orientation

New First Year and Transfer students will participate in orientation Aug. 20-23rd. Orientation will occur on campus with a combination of small group face to face sessions and virtual live streams.  Students will be assigned to orientation groups that consist of 10-12 students and one orientation leader. Orientation Leaders will begin virtual meet-ups via Zoom in early August. During orientation students will have some required programs and some free time / optional programs. Orientation is a great way to meet new and current students along with faculty & staff. Move-in Dates (New and Transfer Students)

Driving to campus:
All new and transfer students will move-in between August 19-20th. New student athletes who are driving to campus have been assigned a Wednesday, August 19, 2020 move-in time slot. All other first year and transfer students who are driving to campus will move in at their assigned move-in time slot on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

Flying to campus:
Based on recommendations we have received from UPMC, any student who is flying to campus will need to disclose their flight arrangements and must arrive at a least five days before their scheduled move-in date (August 14, 2020 or August 15, 2020). Please report your intent to fly using the Flight Arrival Information Form. Students flying will not be charged any additional costs for their early arrival but will be responsible for their own food costs during the time they are on-campus before orientation. While on-campus, students will need to engage in a modified self-isolation, where they will be allowed to leave to get food or other essentials while wearing a mask and will be asked to primarily remain in their room and monitor their health for the five-day period.

International students:
Any international students should follow the directions you receive from the Office of International Affairs as it relates to your arrival on-campus. Per CDC guidelines, international students must quarantine for 14-days either on or off-campus and have received information about this process from Chatham already.

Required Documentation

All residents must complete the following requirements before arriving on-campus:

  • Resident Safety Plan – Each resident must complete the Resident Safety Plan Form by noon on July 31, 2020. The safety plan outlines what students would do in the event of a campus closure due to a contagious virus, like COVID-19, and their quarantine plan if they were to become exposed to or infected with COVID-19.
  • Health & Immunization Records – Each new and transfer student must provide health and immunization information through a web-based software program call Med+Proctor by August 1, 2020. You have already received an email to your Chatham University email account form Med+ Proctor prompting you to setup an account. Once you’ve setup an account, you must upload the require health and immunization records to Med+Proctor. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania mandates submission of these records; therefore, students who do not submit this information CANNOT move onto campus until they have done so. If you have any questions, please contact Chatham University Student Health Services at RGiles@chatham.edu.
Any resident who has not submitted a Resident Safety Plan or Health and Immunization Records will not be permitted to move on-campus.

Move-in Day Logistics

Residents can only bring two (2) guests with them to complete their move-in.
Your two (2) guests will be allowed to be on-campus with you for a 2 to 3-hour time period. One hour has been allocated for the unloading/move-in process and the other 1 to 2 hours can be utilized for unpacking or going off-campus to get necessary items and supplies. At the end of 3 hours your two (2) guests will need to depart from campus and will not be able to enter your residence hall or apartment any longer.

Residents are only permitted to have one car for move-in purposes.
You will be directed to go to a specific unloading zone for this process. This will be a single parking space for you one-hour time slot and you will be required to park your car in another designated location once you have unloaded.

By the end of July, you will be emailed a parking pass that we ask you to print out and display on the dashboard of the one vehicle you are using for the move-in. Residents will be provided further instructions regarding the parking pass and what they need to do when they receive the email.

You must wear a mask throughout your move-in process.
This also applies to your individuals who are helping you during the move-in process. Everyone that enters campus property must wear a mask while inside a building (other than your room or apartment) and must wear a mask outside when 6 feet of social distancing is not feasible or possible. Individuals who are helping you must also be symptom- and fever-free to assist you during the move-in process.

Move-in times are limited 1-hour time slots and students are expected to be able to move all items in within that time block.

FAQ: Move-in Details

Distribution Days/Times in Woodland 103

Wednesday, August 19 - Noon to 4:00 pm
Thursday, August 20 - 8:00 am to Noon, and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Friday, August 21 - 9:00 am to Noon

In order to allow for social distancing and limit the number of people in the space, we are asking students to register for time slots via SignUpGenius.

ITS will be sending an e-mail to the students about the distribution schedule and how to sign up for a time slot.

Chatham is asking all students to self-isolate at home for 14-days prior to coming to campus. This does not mean you are being quarantined. This means limiting exposure to those that do not live with you or who do not reside in your home environment. If you need to go out to a store or public area for various errands, please wear a mask when in public or in any area where you are with people you do not live with.
We are looking to increase social (physical) distancing throughout the move-in process for all residents. Residents who are driving to and live within a few hours of campus that want to move items in before their scheduled move-in day will be able to request to do so by emailing reslife@chatham.edu. Requests must be emailed by noon on July 31, 2020 and decisions of whether it will be permitted or not will be communicated by August 4th. Any resident who is permitted to drop items off, will make individual arrangements for a specific date and time with the Office of Residence Life and will not be allowed to reside in their room until their scheduled move-in day.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Residence Life – Student Affairs at 412-365-1518 or reslife@chatham.edu.
