Sustainability in Community Planning (MSPC) Overview

Chatham's Master of Sustainability in Community Planning (MSPC) aims to cultivate innovative leaders equipped with the knowledge and skills to design, implement, and advocate for sustainable solutions in urban and rural environments. Our program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and evidence-based practices to address the complex challenges of climate change, social equity, and economic resilience.

Application Deadlines

Priority & Regular

Priority deadline for fall enrollment is February 1. Submit all materials by this date for fellowship and assistantship consideration. Regular deadline for fall enrollment is July 1. Regular deadline for spring enrollment is November 1.

Credits Required

36

Chatham's Master of Sustainability Community Planning requires 36 credits, which can be completed in three terms of full-time study.

The MSPC incorporates real-world experience into its curriculum by collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, nonprofits, and innovative businesses to provide immediate impacts in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Eden Hall Farm

Located 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, Chatham’s 388-acre Eden Hall Farm serves as a living and learning laboratory, offering research and employment opportunities that involve food and sustainable agriculture, water, energy, climate, and community health. The farm is ideally situated to connect with multiple municipalities in the wider Western Pennsylvania region.

Build Real-World Experience

Our Sustainability in Community Planning program incorporates real-world experience into its curriculum. By collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, nonprofits, and innovative businesses, you will engage in live projects, address pressing sustainability challenges, and develop the skills needed to create meaningful impact.

Partnerships in Pennsylvania

Collaborations with local businesses, government, non-profits, farms, purveyors, and restaurants across the region provide students with hands-on, experiential learning that sets the Falk School apart. Sustainability graduate students have completed projects with the City of Pittsburgh, the Borough of Mars, Middlesex Community Action, the Millvale Community Development Corporation, and the Millvale and Triboro Ecodistricts, among others.

Master of Sustainability (MSUS)

Not sure the MSPC is right for you? The Master of Sustainability (MSUS) program in the Falk School prepares students with full-scale thinking to act upon our important local and large-scale global problems and be the agents of change that corporations, governments, and other organizations need to lead their sustainability initiatives.

Tuition & Funding

The cost of a graduate degree consists of university tuition (per credit charge), fees, and any other personal expenses you may require for earning your degree. Chatham also offers a 20% corporate partner discount and professional campus work positions for many graduate programs that can help make a Chatham graduate education more affordable. Our Financial Aid and Admissions offices will also work with you to understand loan and financing options available.
