Music Business Overview

The music business major is an interdisciplinary program that combines courses from music and business to give students with a passion for music a path into the business world. This major is designed to prepare you for leadership roles through expertise in strategic planning, management, marketing, and artistic planning. You will have experience with both live and recorded music management, and be fluent in music-specific business issues such as copyright, publishing, and performance rights. You will also identify business opportunities within the music world and focus on planning, organizing, and leading music organizations to accomplish performance goals. Majors and minors are available in Music (performance or composition) and Music Technology.

Double Majors & Minors

Majors and minors are offered in Music (performance and composition), Music Technology, and Music Business, with many Chatham music students choosing to double major in an additional field.

Chatham's music business major prepares students for a range of career paths because music study teaches students readily transferable skills such as focus, perseverance, and entrepreneurial thinking, and specific business courses add an extra layer to this preparation by providing students that are passionate about music with in-depth work in related areas that can even more directly lead to careers in and around music.
