HAPPY2 Project
In the summer of 2025, Chatham University’s Graduate Psychology and Occupational Therapy Programs were awarded a collaborative four-year grant from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) to continue the HAPPYProject.
The HAPPY2 Project aims to:
- Increase the number of behavioral healthcare professionals who are trained to provide integrated behavioral health care and committed to working in high-need and high-demand areas
- Promote collaborative training by using team-based models of care to integrate behavioral health care into interprofessional primary care settings
- Recruit a qualified workforce interested in working with children, adolescents and young adults
- Recruit, develop, and expand the capacity to train clinical supervisors to support and mentor behavioral health trainees
Federally qualified health centers and community sites students may work in include:
- Northside Christian Health Center
- UPMC HOPE Team
- Cornerstone Care Community Health Centers
- The Bradley Center
- Primary Care Health Services, Inc.
- Allies for Health + Wellbeing
Fellowship Benefits
HAPPY2 Fellows spend their practicums/capstones offering integrated care to address the behavioral healthcare needs of children, adolescents, and young adults in high need, high demand populations and areas. In addition to training at these integrated care sites, the HAPPY2 Project includes:
- A stipend during the training year: PsyD and OTD students receive $32,500; MSCP students receive $25,000.
- Training in integrated care models, telehealth, health literacy, substance use disorders, and other HRSA priority areas through an enhanced Practicum/Capstone course, continuing education and in-class workshops.
- Training in topics specifically tailored to training sites and trainees’ needs as well as professional development.
- Participation in professional development events includes case-based standardized patient encounters.
- Participation in local BHWET-partner sponsored events.
- Funds for membership in professional organizations including American Psychological Association (APA) or American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
- Funds to attend a conference or training on HAPPY2 grant themes.
- Mentoring and support through Chatham’s Office of Career Development.
- Participation in an interdisciplinary community of practice, networking with alumni, collaborators, and site supervisors.
- Career development, mentoring, and support for job placement.
Applying for the HAPPY2 Project Fellowship
Fellowships occur in the students’ final year before doctoral internship (PsyD) or graduation (OTD/MSCP). Students may apply for the HAPPY2 Project as part of their practicum application by ranking HAPPY2 sites. All fellows must be selected by a HAPPY2 Project practicum/ internship site.
