Calculations for Measures
Measure |
Description and How It Was Calculated |
Retention |
Formula: The retention rate is calculated by dividing the number of second-year students who returned in Fall 2022 by the number of students who returned in Fall 2023. Example: In Fall 2022, there were five new full-time students in a program cohort. Four students from the 2022 cohort returned in 2023. Retention rate is 4/5 = 80%, attrition rate is 1/5 = 20%. |
Graduation Rate |
Formula: Total number of graduates divided by the total cohort number = graduation rate. Undergraduate Example: There were 10 new first-year students who started in the Fall 2018 cohort. Eight of them graduated from Chatham University. Graduation Rate = 80% Graduate Example: 20 students started the MBA program, and 18 students graduated from the MBA program. Graduation rate = 90% |
