MSN Program Goals
The Chatham University’s Master of Science in Nursing program assists individuals in acquiring the knowledge and skills to lead in the current and emerging healthcare fields. Students receive core knowledge based on AACN Essentials (2021) and specialized knowledge and skills in their concentration of leadership or education. Learning focuses on integrating evidence-based findings from nursing and other fields for continual improvement of nursing care. Students will gain an understanding of health policy and advocacy and analyze and synthesize innovative approaches to complex issues in health care delivery. Students construct techniques of effective communication and collaboration with all members of the healthcare team. As nursing leaders, they have an advanced understanding of physical assessment, pathology, pharmacology, and health promotion. Chatham University nursing students will function effectively in many healthcare arenas and be prepared for further education at the doctoral level.
MSN Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the MSN Program, the student will:
- Integrate theories and scientific findings from nursing and other disciplines to provide a foundation for clinical judgement and advancing nursing practice.
- Demonstrate use of diversity, equity and inclusion principles combined with evidence-based interventions aimed to support person-centered care.
- Utilize collaboration to promote disease prevention and management strategies to advance population health across the lifespan.
- Facilitate the generation, utilization, and sharing of scholarly evidence to change health care.
- Implement QI and safety principles to promote patient and provider well-being.
- Form collaborative partnerships with the interprofessional care team and other stakeholders to improve healthcare experiences and outcomes.
- Synthesize organizational and systems leadership principles to promote culturally relevant, high quality and safe patient care.
- Analyze current and emerging trends & technologies for data-driven decision-making to support quality healthcare outcomes.
- Integrate the core values of nursing and other professions to establish a solid foundation for professional growth and sustainability.
- Advance personal, professional and leadership development through self-care practices, advocacy of the nursing profession, and experiential learning activities.

Chatham nursing graduates are prepared to function professionally in their work, take on leadership positions at work and in their communities, and acknowledge the need for life-long learning in their profession. Chatham nursing faculty support this learning by providing a high-quality, contemporary curriculum within an environment of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice while maintaining their own commitment to scholarship and life-long learning.
