Graduate Assistantships

Graduate assistantships provide students with the opportunity to conduct research with a faculty member, assist with teaching responsibilities, or participate in and organize departmental or campus projects.

In turn, these positions offer hands-on experience, expanded learning opportunities, and professional skill development.

Most positions are awarded for one year and may be renewed for a second year depending on the length of the graduate program, as well as academic and job performance. The maximum length of an award is two years, regardless of the length of the program in which the student is enrolled. Students must maintain full-time enrollment in the program to maintain the Graduate Assistantship award.

Students who receive a Graduate Assistantship will not be eligible for any other scholarship/fellowship, tuition remission program, or reduced tuition rates offered by the University. However, a student may hold both a Graduate Assistantship and an on-campus employment position, with total work hours not to exceed 19 per week.

All students admitted to Chatham University’s graduate programs will automatically be considered for funding positions based on information presented in the admission application. No additional funding application is necessary, with the exception of the Success Coach Graduate Assistantships for psychology students (see information below). Some programs may require an interview as part of the selection process.

Students must apply to their chosen graduate program by the stated application deadline on the program’s webpage.  Review for funding positions will begin after a student’s admission, and awards will be offered on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.  Graduate Assistantship award recipients will be notified by email.
