2022 COVID-19 Protocols

Please note that all protocols are subject to change for 2023 and will be updated as we continue to work through planning for the Sustainable Leadership Academy.

Pre-Program Protocols

Before attending the Sustainable Leadership Academy, all families must sign a consent form that confirms they read the protocols and are willing to comply. This consent form will be sent out via our CampBrain (registration site) a few weeks before the Sustainable Leadership Academy begins. Due to COVID-19, if the program has to switch to a virtual program, program costs will be decreased and a percentage equivalent to program room and board will be refunded to all participants. If you choose to withdraw from the program, in the event of a program switch to virtual format, you can request a full refund up to one month before session start.

  • All program participants must begin to self-quarantine 5 days prior to the administering of their pre-camp COVID-19 test. During the quarantine, we ask that the SLA participant avoid physical contact with anyone outside of their household, unless absolutely necessary. In addition, we ask other household members to take appropriate prevention measures (wearing a mask, staying 6 feet away from other people, and washing hands with soap and water frequently) during the camper’s quarantine period. SLA staff will also be required to quarantine. All program participants and staff should avoid any non-essential travel for the entire quarantine period. If travel outside of the home is absolutely necessary, a face mask should be worn at all times. Persons who have been fully vaccinated (two weeks following receipt of final dose) by the day before arrival at the Sustainable Leadership Academy program are not required to complete the pre-program self-quarantine.
  • During the quarantine period, all program participants and staff should self-monitor for symptoms related to COVID-19 and check their temperature daily. Upon arrival at Chatham, we will be asking that all parents and staff members over 18 years of age sign an acknowledgement that this was completed each day. All program participants and staff will be required to be completely symptom-free for at least 24 hours prior to their arrival at Chatham without the use of any medication.
  • All program participants must have either (1) a negative PCR COVID-19 test that was conducted no earlier than 5 days and no later than 3 days prior to arrival at Chatham and share their results with the Sustainable Leadership Academy Director prior to arrival or (2) a record of full vaccination (two weeks from final done) by the day before arrival shared with the Sustainable Leadership Academy Director prior to arrival. Only participants and staff who provide negative results or record of vaccination will be permitted to check in for the program—no exceptions.
  • Participants traveling from state-to-state as part of a vacation before the Sustainable Leadership Academy or while traveling to Chatham must follow CDC guidelines. Participants who reside in locations far outside of the Pittsburgh area are encouraged to explore local arrangements for any CDC required quarantine (if applicable), or make arrangements to drive to the Sustainable Leadership Academy while minimizing their exposure to anyone outside their household. Please check CDC travel guidelines for updated expectations. If flying, at this time nothing special is required of any vaccinated participants. If you are not vaccinated and are flying to the Sustainable Leadership Academy, after landing in Pittsburgh we require you to please shelter in place for 5 days and then provide a negative Covid test. Chatham will not provide this Covid test.
  • A Chatham shuttle, utilizing Covid-protocols, will be available to bring participants to the Eden Hall Campus from the Shadyside Chatham Campus for the program start day.
  • Stay home if feeling sick, no matter how mild (or whatever) the symptoms.

Arrival to and Departure from the Sustainable Leadership Academy

The specific details and logistics around drop-off and pick-up, i.e., assigned times, meeting locations, etc., will be shared with our families closer to the start of the program. You can expect a careful and responsible check-in/out process that supports the stable environment we are trying to create and maintain.

Upon arrival at Chatham, we will be performing a health screening for everyone in the car. This includes temperature checks and a questionnaire around COVID-19 symptoms experienced in the past 24 hours and any known exposures to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days. Any participant or staff member who has experienced any COVID-related symptom(s) will be directed to a local medical facility to determine whether their arrival at Chatham needs to be delayed.

Prior to the health screenings, we will ask you to sign an acknowledgement confirming that all pre-program requirements of quarantine and self-screening for symptoms were completed (in addition to having received a negative COVID-19 test/showing proof of vaccination for the participant). We will only be allowing the program participant and one pre-registered guest to leave the car.

After you return home from bringing your participant to the SLA, we ask for your continued partnership by keeping us informed if anyone at home develops any symptoms of or tests positive for COVID-19.

We also ask that after your camper has returned home to keep us informed if anyone at home develops any symptoms of or tests positive for, COVID-19. We recommend participants get screened for COVID-19 when they return home.
